Pregnancy-Safe Spa Menu: Facials, Massage & Light Treatments You CAN Enjoy

Pregnancy is a season of anticipation (and of sudden skin surprises!). Shifting hormones may leave some patients glowing, while others notice new breakouts, dryness, or melasma. A visit to our Fort Worth medical spa is a welcome opportunity for relief and self-care, provided each treatment respects mother and baby.
Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Emily Kirby is a mother of two, and shares her guide below on what medspa treatments are safe, what to skip, and how to keep your complexion calm throughout the next nine months.
Treatments Dr. Kirby’s Medical Spa Team Tailors for Expecting Moms
| Safe Service | Why It Works During Pregnancy |
| Hydrafacial MD (customized “baby on board” version) | This soothing facial cleanses, infuses antioxidant serums, and finishes with hydration with no irritation, no downtime, and results you can see immediately. Our aestheticians swap salicylic/retinol boosters for pregnancy-safe antioxidants and peptides. |
| Dermaplaning | A gentle exfoliation treatment that lifts peach fuzz and dull surface cells without chemicals or heat, leaving skin smoother and increasing serum absorption. Safe for nearly every skin type (including sensitive, acne-prone complexions). |
| Celluma LED Light Therapy | Low-level red and near-infrared light treatments (often added to Hydrafacials) calm inflammation and encourage collagen production without raising skin temperature to keep mom and baby comfortable. |
Before your treatment, please let us know how far along you are and share any obstetrician restrictions so we can make you as comfortable as possible and personalize your experience from start to finish.
Popular Med Spa Services to Postpone Until After Delivery
Here’s a list of services you should book after your delivery and why:
- Botox®, Dysport®, Daxxify® & dermal fillers – Limited safety data means Dr. Kirby advises waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well.
- Energy-based skin tightening or resurfacing – Devices such as Ultherapy®, IPL photofacials, lasers (CO₂, ResurFX®), and RF microneedling (Morpheus8) expose tissues to heat or light wavelengths that have not been studied in pregnancy.
- Medium-to-deep chemical peels (e.g., VI Peel) – Many contain high-strength salicylic or retinoic acids that could be dangerous to baby.
- CoolSculpting®, Kybella®, weight-loss injections – Body-shaping treatments rely on controlled cooling, apoptosis (fat cell death), or medication not suitable for pregnant patients.
A temporary pause in treatment will not permanently set you back on your goals, and we are happy to recommend safe alternatives to help you stride with confidence into motherhood.

Prenatal Beauty Tips Between Visits
Regular pregnancy-safe spa treatments can support your skin during pregnancy, and you can also enhance your glow at home with simple adjustments to your routine. Here are some helpful prenatal beauty tips to keep you feeling and looking your best between visits:
1. Sun Defense Is Non-Negotiable
Choose a broad-spectrum mineral-based sun block (with zinc oxide or titanium) and reapply every two hours to curb melasma flares. Ask about our medical-grade sunscreen and skincare!
2. Simplify Your Routine
Swap prescription retinoids for pregnancy-safe vitamin C serum and barrier-building moisturizers rich in ceramides. Our team can help you curate a skincare regimen that is safe during pregnancy. We also carry Votesse vitamins for hair growth to help combat post-partum hair loss.
3. Hydrate Inside and Out
Aim for 80+ oz of water daily and layer hyaluronic-acid serums under moisturizer to counteract pregnancy-related dryness.
4. Mind Swelling
Elevate feet when possible and wear compression socks; a light lymphatic Hydrafacial can also help relieve fluid retention in your face.
Your Safety Comes First
Every treatment at Kalos Medical Spa is overseen by Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Emily Kirby. Before scheduling, please:
- Obtain clearance from your obstetrician (especially if you have a high-risk pregnancy).
- Inform our team of any new medications or complications.
- Plan appointments during the second trimester when nausea typically subsides and lying flat feels more comfortable.
