Breast Reconstruction
A 50-year-old female was diagnosed with left breast cancer after feeling a non-painful mass. She had no other symptoms. She was tested and noted to be positive for the BRCA gene, which gives a patient significantly increased risks of breast and ovarian cancer, among other known problems. She elected to proceed with bilateral mastectomy after a course of pre-operative chemotherapy. Immediately following her bilateral mastectomy, she underwent direct-to-implant breast reconstruction using permanent silicone cohesive implants and Alloderm acellular dermal matrix placed above the muscle (pre-pectoral).
