Considering plastic surgery? Signs you’re in good hands, and red flags that say “walk away”

you're in good hands

The elective nature of cosmetic surgery can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you have complete freedom to choose your doctor, without referrals or networks restricting your options. On the other hand, you, the patient, are responsible for ensuring the doctor you choose has the training, experience, and skills to provide a safe surgery and recovery, as well as  results you will love.

New cosmetic surgery patients are not always sure what to look for in a potential surgeon—much less red flags that signal that a surgeon is not a good choice. That is why I wanted to share this article from the Fox 5 Medical News Team in Atlanta. It is brief, yet full of crucial things not to overlook when consulting with potential surgeons.

Because cosmetic surgery is elective, it is your responsibility as the patient to ensure the doctor you choose has the training, experience, and skills to provide a safe procedure and results you love.

I urge anyone considering plastic surgery to take a minute to read it. For example, did you know that it is not normal (nor appropriate) for your consultation to be conducted by anyone other than the surgeon who will be performing your procedure?

While it is your responsibility to choose your surgeon, I believe it is my responsibility as a board certified plastic surgeon to do what I can to help patients make an informed choice. If you are researching plastic surgeons in Fort Worth, I invite you to contact me for a consultation. During our time together, I will be glad to go over my training, qualifications, and experience, thoroughly cover options for improving your appearance safely and successfully, and answer all of your questions.
